Vitamix Containers: Compatibility + Replacement Guide 2024

In the past few years, Vitamix has introduced a variety of container sizes and styles to meet different blending needs for its different blender models.

While this has made Vitamix such a versatile machine, knowing which containers are compatible with your blender is now more challenging than ever!

In this guide, I’ll help you easily navigate the confusing world of Vitamix containers, their intended uses, and compatibility with different Vitamix models.

I’ve split it into two; the first section covers all the Vitamix containers ever made, the different sizes currently in circulation, and the compatible blenders!

In the second section, I’ve listed all the Vitamix blender models made since the 1990s, the right replacement container, and other compatible accessory containers!

Table of Contents

Are Vitamix Containers Interchangeable?

No. Vitamix containers are not interchangeable across all blenders since different container designs and sizes exist for different Vitamix blender platforms and models.

But since some Vitamix blender platforms like the Ascent Series share the same features and specs, in that case, their containers are compatible and 100% interchangeable!

However, containers meant for the Ascent Series blenders might not be compatible with other platforms, like Explorian Series, Legacy Series, and Propel Series. And if they are compatible, you won’t be able to use some of their features!

Just because a certain Vitamix container fits on top of your Vitamix blender doesn’t mean it will work efficiently and get you consistent blending results.

All the full-size Vitamix blenders have a similar blender-top-container interface and a universal drive socket, and you might be curious to try a container meant for a different Vitamix model on yours.

But a low motor power and a lack of features like built-in gradual-start and SELF-DETECT technology might lead to overheating and other incompatibility issues when using the wrong container!

Unfortunately, Vitamix doesn’t keep an up-to-date catalog and compatibility guide for its different blender platforms, models, and containers.

And since many Vitamix enthusiasts share their favorite containers online, you can be easily misinformed about getting a container incompatible with your Vitamix!

That’s why I took my time to list all the Vitamix containers ever made and currently in circulation and all the compatible blender platforms and models!

Vitamix Containers Compatibility Replacement Guide

All Vitamix Containers + Compatible Vitamix Blenders

I’ve lined up all Vitamix containers and compatible Vitamix blenders in this section, from the original Vitamix Classic Series to the latest Propel Series models!

IMPORTANT: The secret to Vitamix’s industry-leading consistent blending results is the blades that come with its containers. They are all made of aircraft-grade, laser-cut stainless steel that blends by pulverizing the ingredients at high speed! Regardless of the container compatible with your Vitamix, the blending results and textures will always be impressively consistent and silky-smooth!

1. Vitamix 64-oz Classic Container

The Vitamix 64-oz classic container is the oldest Vitamix container! It’s compatible with all Classic C-Series blenders with a 2-horsepower motor, including:

  • Vitamix 4200, 4500, & 5000.
  • Vitamix 5200, which is the most popular Vitamix model ever made!
  • Vitamix 6000 & 6300.
  • Vitamix Aspire & Aspire GC.
  • Vitamix TurboBlend Three Speed, TurboBlend Two Speed, & TurboBlend VS.
  • Vitamix Creations II, Creations GC, Creations Elite, & Creations Gallery.

  • Vitamix Vita-Prep 3 Commercial Blender (62827/VM0101).

The Vitamix 64-oz classic container has a tall, narrow design with 3-inches blades. It will also efficiently work with the Explorian E310 and Propel Series 510 blenders with 2-HP motors!

Vitamix Containers Compatibility

NOTE: While the 64-oz classic container is compatible with the Vitamix E320, Propel 750, and other Legacy Series models with the slightly powerful 2.2-HP motor, you should get the 64-oz low-profile container for these blenders!

Some third-party manufacturers have designed a replica of the Vitamix 64-oz classic container for almost half the price. But they come with only a 1-Year warranty, and you aren’t guaranteed the same blade quality!

However, if you want a cheaper replacement container for your Vitamix 64-oz classic container-compatible blender, click here. It’s worth the price and is made of food-grade, BPA-free plastic!

2. Vitamix 64-oz Low-Profile Container

The Vitamix 64-oz low-profile container first appeared with the Classic G-Series blenders, which have 2.2-HP motors with improved motor bases for better airflow!

This container is compatible and interchangeable with all the Classic C-Series, G-Series, Explorian Series, and Propel Series blenders with 2.2-HP motors, including:

The Vitamix 64-oz low-profile container has a black lid and a clear lid plug. It’s the most popular Vitamix container at the time of this writing!

Vitamix Containers Compatibility

It has a shorter, wider design with 4-inches blades that need the slightly powerful 2.2-horsepower motors for optimal blending performance.

One advantage of the 64-oz low profile over the 64-oz classic is its shorter design, which allows the blender to fit in most kitchen cabinets with the container on top!

TIP: Most Vitamix enthusiasts agree the 64-oz low-profile container performs better at processing heavy liquids and thick smoothies due to its wider design!

If you want a cheaper, third-party replacement container for your Vitamix 64-oz low-profile container-compatible blender, click here. It’s also BPA-free!

3. Vitamix 64-oz Low-Profile Container with SELF-DETECT

Vitamix 64-oz Low-Profile Container with SELF-DETECT has a clear lid with a clear lid plug. It also features the patented SELF-DETECT technology!

Vitamix Containers Compatibility

The technology uses NFC, which lets compatible blenders detect the container size and adjust its settings and maximum blending times for consistent results.

It also has a shorter, wider design with 4-inches blades that need the slightly powerful 2.2-horsepower motors for optimal blending performance.

So, it’s compatible with the above blenders with 2.2-HP motors, but the SELF-DETECT technology will only work with Ascent Series and Venturist blenders with the SELF-DETECT technology, including

NOTE: The Vitamix 64-oz Low-Profile Container with SELF-DETECT differs from the above Vitamix 64-oz Low-Profile Container, which lacks the NFC chip!

IMPORTANT: I 100% recommend you AVOID any SELF-DETECT containers from third-party manufacturers since this patented technology is built into both the containers and the blender bases.

4. Vitamix 48-oz Container

The Vitamix 48-oz Container has a narrow design with 3-inches blades. It’s compatible with all full-size Vitamix blenders with 2-HP and 2.2-HP motors, excluding all four Ascent Series models and the Venturist V1200.

It’s the container that comes with the Vitamix Explorian E310 and Propel Series 510 and is perfect for single-serve to medium-size recipes for one or two people.

5. Vitamix 48-oz Wet Container with SELF-DETECT

Vitamix Containers Compatibility

The Vitamix 48-oz Container with SELF-DETECT features the NFC chip that works with the Ascent Series and Venturist blenders I’ve excluded above, including:

But it’s compatible with all the other full-size Vitamix blenders with 2-HP and 2.2-HP motors. It also has 3-inches blades and a clear lid with a clear lid plug.

TIP: This container is also available as the Vitamix 48-oz Color Container with SELF-DETECT in purple, blue, and yellow colors to suit your preferences!

6. Vitamix 48-oz Dry Grains Container with SELF-DETECT

The Vitamix 48-ounce Dry Grains Container with SELF-DETECT differs from the above Vitamix 48-oz Wet Container with SELF-DETECT.

The dry grains container has different blades design, with two flat blades and two triangular blades cut off at the tips.

The unique design creates a reverse vortex that pushes the ingredients away from the blades while blending, creating a powdery effect

The dry grains container suits you if you regularly mill dry grains, grind coffee beans, or mix whole-grain flour for baking!

NOTE: This container is compatible with all full-size Vitamix blenders, but the SELF-DETECT features will only work with Ascent Series and Venturist blenders.

Can You Use Vitamix Wet Container for Dry?

Yes, if you don’t process dry ingredients and grind coffee regularly, you can use the Vitamix wet container for dry blending.

Unlike the dry blades, the Vitamix wet blades create a vortex while blending, which pulls the ingredients toward the blades, thus creating a liquid effect.

It’s why fruit chunks and veggies start liquifying from the bottom when making a smoothie, then smoothens into consistency.

As such, when processing dry ingredients with the wet container, only work with smaller batches for the best results!

7. Vitamix 48-oz Stainless Steel Container

The Vitamix 48-oz stainless steel container is compatible with all full-sized Vitamix blenders. It’s easy to clean and dishwasher-safe!

This container is extremely durable, odor-resistant, and non-reactive. So you can blend cold recipes, steaming hot soups, and acidic ingredients.

Vitamix Containers Compatibility

One downside of the stainless steel container is its opaque design, making it hard to measure the ratio of solid to liquid ingredients.

But it has a clear BPA-free plastic lid with a non-drip spout! The clear lid allows you to monitor and adjust the blending process without stopping the blender.

Like all Vitamix containers, it has high-quality aircraft-grade, laser-cut stainless steel hammermill blades that consistently pulverize ingredients.

NOTE: The Vitamix 48-oz Stainless Steel Container is interchangeable with all Vitamix blenders, including Classic C-Series (5200, etc.), G-Series (7500, Pro 750, etc.), Explorian (E310, E320, & E520), Ascent Series (A3500, V1200, etc.), and Propel 510 and Propel 750.

If you can afford its slightly higher price tag, the 48-oz stainless steel container is worth it! It can blend anything, including ground coffee, making nut butter, not soups, silky-smooth smoothies, frozen treats, crushed ice, and more!

8. Vitamix Aer Disc Container, 48-oz

The Vitamix Aer Disc Container is a 48-oz blending container compatible with all full-sized Vitamix blenders, including the Classic C Series, G Series, Explorian Ascent, and Propel Series models.

Vitamix Containers Compatibility

Unlike the regular Vitamix containers, the Aer Disc container has a stainless steel spinning disk with 12 holes instead of blades.

It works by pulling liquid ingredients through the holes, aerating and emulsifying them, while firmer ingredients like fruits, ice, and herbs are agitated but not pulverized.

The Aer Disc container lets you effortlessly make bar-quality cocktails in no time. It acts as both a muddler and cocktail shaker.

As such, you’ll extract essential oils and juice from the ingredients and chill the drinks without crushing the ice, just like at your favorite bar!

It also makes homemade whipped cream, vegan fluff, and frothing drinks for your lattes, cappuccino, and so much more.

My favorite feature of this container is how it wonderfully extracts fruit juice from citrus. Click here to learn more about using the Vitamix Aer Disc!

9. Vitamix 40-oz Compact Container for S-Series

The Vitamix 40-oz compact container was designed specifically for the discontinued Vitamix S-Series blender modes, S55, S50, and S30.

They were a line-up of personal-sized, space-saving Vitamix blenders that suited families of one or two, students, minimalists, and RVers!

But Vitamix retired them, probably due to low sales volume. It subtly replaced them with the Vitamix One, which uses a different 32-oz streamlined container!

10. Vitamix 32-oz Wet Container

The Vitamix 32-oz wet container is a smaller version of the 64-oz classic tall and 48-oz wet containers and is compatible with Classic C-Series and G-Series blenders!

Vitamix Containers Compatibility

It is suitable for blending single-serve smoothie/shakes batches and small meal preps for a family of one or two!

Despite its smaller design, it still features the same 3-inch aircraft-grade, laser-cut stainless steel blades that consistently pulverize ingredients.

As with all Vitamix containers, the 32-oz wet container is impressively well-built with BPA-free high-quality plastic for reliability and durability!

TIP: While Vitamix doesn’t highlight it, this container works with Explorian Series and Propel Series blender models (E310, E320, E520, Vitamix Propel 510, and Propel 750).

11. Vitamix 32-oz Dry Grains Container

The Vitamix 32-oz dry grains container is the dry blades version of the above 32-oz wet container.

It’s the ideal dry container for all the Classic C-Series, G-Series, Explorian Series, and Propel Series blender models.

I highly recommend it if you regularly grind coffee beans and whole grains into fresh flour in small batches.

12. Vitamix One 32-oz Container

The 32-oz container that comes with the Vitamix One has a unique streamlined design and only works with the Vitamix One machine.

If, for some reason, you need a replacement, I recommend you call Vitamix customer service or visit a service center near you!

13. Vitamix 20-oz Blending Cup with SELF-DETECT

Vitamix Containers Compatibility

The Vitamix 20-oz blending cup with SELF-DETECT is exclusively designed for the four Ascent Series blenders and the Venturist V1200

In fact, the Vitamix V1200 package includes the Vitamix 20-oz blending cup with SELF-DETECT with a blade base and a swappable spill-proof lid for travel!

It is the perfect container for making single-serve smoothies and shakes to drink as you go about your daily business at work, school, etc!

If you have an Ascent Series Vitamix (A2300, A2500, A3300, or A3500), you must get the Vitamix Blending Cup Bowl Starter Kit separately. It includes:

  • A 20-oz blending cup with a spill-proof lid.
  • An 8-oz blending bowl with a stackable lid.
  • A blade base that works with both the 20-oz blending cup and 8-oz bowl.

The blending blade base features smaller, high-quality aircraft-grade laser-cut stainless steel blades that still deliver the iconic Vitamix blending consistency!

It also has the SELF-DETECT technology, so your Vitamix can recognize the blending cup or bowl and adjust its settings and maximum blending times.

TIP: The blending cup, bowl, and lids are top-rack dishwasher-safe. They are also BPA-free and super easy to clean!

My favorite feature of the 20-oz blending cup is the tapered design that easily fits into most refrigerator doors and car cup holders

NOTE: Once you get the Starter Kit with the blade base, you can then affordably purchase other Vitamix 20-oz Blending Cups with SELF-DETECT and use the same blade base.

14. Vitamix 8-oz Blending Bowl with SELF-DETECT

The Vitamix 8-oz blending bowl with SELF-DETECT is a must-have accessory container for your Ascent Series and Venturist Vitamix blender!

It allows you to create tiny portions of your favorite recipes. Most Vitamix enthusiasts use it for chopping ingredients like onion and garlic

But the sky is the limit on what you can do with the 8-oz bowl, including making healthy baby food, single-serve salsa, quick powdered sugar, and more!

You can purchase other bowls separately once you get the Vitamix Blending Cup Bowl Starter Kit, which has one 8-oz blending bowl!

The stackable design of the 8-oz blending bowls allows you to conveniently blend your favorite ingredients and store them for your future meal preps!

NOTE: You’ll need to purchase the Vitamix Blending Cup Bowl Starter Kit first to get the blending blade base before purchasing other 8-oz blending bowls separately.

15. Vitamix Personal Cup Adapter with 20-oz Blending Cups

Vitamix Containers Compatibility

After seeing an impressive reception of the 20-oz blending cups with SELF-DETECT for Ascent Series and Venturist blenders, Vitamix designed the Vitamix Personal Adapter Cup that has:

  • A blending blade base with high-quality, laser-cut blades.
  • Two 20-oz blending cups with spill-proof lids for travel.

The blade base is bulky, so it can sit on your Vitamix sturdily while blending with the lightweight 20-oz containers. It’s compatible with all Classic C-Series, G-Series, Explorian Series, and Propel Series models.

The Vitamix Personal Cup Adapter is a must-have accessory if you regularly make single-serve smoothies and shakes to drink while walking or driving to work or school. It’s dishwasher-safe and self-cleaning!

TIP: The Vitamix Personal Adapter cup also does a great job at blending nut milk, which makes it a great accessory container if you live a dairy-free lifestyle!

BONUS: Vitamix 12-Cup Food Processor Attachment with SELF-DETECT

Vitamix Containers Compatibility

The Vitamix 12-Cup Food Processor Attachment is not a container per se but a food processor compatible with Ascent Series and Venturist blenders.

It can chop, mince, slice, shred, knead, and mix. And like your other Vitamix containers, it is BPA-free and dishwasher-safe!

It has SELF-DETECT, allowing your Vitamix A3500, A3300, A2500, A2300, or V1200 to recognize and adjust its settings and maximum blending times!

The Food Processor Attachment lets you take your Vitamix blender to the next level. It’s a complete set that comes with the following components:

  • The Food Processor Attachment Base with SELF-DETECT.
  • 12 Cup Work Bowl.
  • Work Bowl Lid.
  • Two Food Pushers (Large & Small).
  • An “S” Multi-Purpose Stainless Steel Blade.
  • Two Reversible Stainless Steel Slice/Shred Discs.
  • Disc Storage Case.

What I love about the Vitamix Food Processor attachment is its ease of use and impressive build quality. It beats most food processors out there, hands down!

If you’re used to your Vitamix Ascent Series or Venturist V1200, you will experience little to no hurdle when getting started with the food processor attachment.

It also has minimal parts for easy assembly, disassembly, and storage! The bowl, lid, and food pushers are clear to easily monitor the food prep process!

NOTE: It comes with a 3-Year full warranty, covering all parts replacement, labor, performance, and two-way shipping at no extra cost to you.

12. What is the Difference Between Wet and Dry Blade Vitamix?

Vitamix Containers Compatibility

Yes, Vitamix has small containers for certain blender models designed for processing small-batch recipes or single servings. Vitamix offers three main types of small containers: the 32-oz container, the 20-oz blending cup, and the 8-oz bowl.

15. Can You Put 64-oz Container on Vitamix E310?

Yes, while Vitamix doesn’t officially recommend this, you can use the 64-oz classic container with the Vitamix E310. It has 3-inch blades like the 48-oz, so the 2-horsepower motor will effectively handle it!

16. What is the Difference Between Vitamix Low Profile and Tall?

21. Is there a Vitamix with a Glass Container?

No, Vitamix blenders do not come with glass containers. All Vitamix containers, except for the 48-oz stainless steel container, are made of high-quality BPA-free Tritan copolyester, which has proven durability, heat resistance, and clarity!

Safety concerns are the main reason for avoiding glass containers. Vitamix blades spin at ultra-high speeds of up to 22,500 RPM, potentially resulting in shuttering and accidents when blending hard nuts and grains in a glass container!

22. Which Vitamix Container is Best for Smoothies?

Any above-listed containers will do an awesome job blending smoothies into silky-smooth, consistent textures. But some Vitamix enthusiasts claim the 64-oz low-profile container makes the best smoothies due to the large 4-inch blades!

23. Do Vitamix Blades Get Dull?

Vitamix blades are made from laser-cut, hammermill stainless steel; under normal use, they are designed to remain sharp and durable for a long time. They don’t blend by cutting but by pulverizing the ingredients to consistency.

24. Which is the Dry Container for Vitamix 5200?

The best dry container for the Vitamix 5200 is the Vitamix 32-oz Dry Grains container. It is a must-have accessory container if you frequently process dry ingredients such as milling grains, kneading dough, coffee beans, and spices.

The 32-oz dry container is also the perfect dry grains container for most Classic C-Series, G-Series, and Explorian Vitamix models, including the 5300, 7500, E520, E310, and E320 and the rest of the models on the above list.

25. Are All Vitamix Containers BPA-Free?

Yes, all Vitamix containers are made of Tritan copolyester plastic that’s BPA-free and FDA-approved for preparing cold and hot food for human consumption.
